Seeds are in the ground!
Hello again friends!
Thank-you for helping to give this year’s growing season a great start! Together with the donations to sponsor acres that have come in along with the much-needed rain that Saskatchewan has received, our hope has grown significantly. Once again, we believe God is blessing our collective effort to help feed those who are hungry.
We invite you to take a moment to read the updates and look at the pictures from each of the fields that were seeded. Each of these represent the faith that Grow Hope Saskatchewan is rooted in – a faith “in the assurance of things hoped for, and the conviction of things not seen.” A faith grounded in a conviction that we are all part of a global community called to do our part in sharing the gifts that each of us has been entrusted with.
For the third year, Brian and Michelle Hergott who farm near Bruno, are seeding canola for Grow Hope. Conditions began as extremely dry but thanks to recent rainfalls, moisture is nearing adequate levels. The photo depicts Brian and Michelle stopping the machinery for a few minutes to share with Jill and Stewart Mitchell (Grow Hope Sask ambassadors) and others interested in the project that they take part in Grow Hope because, “What we have, God has given us and we just want to give back.”
Seeding durum wheat on the Siebert farm near Main Centre. Conditions in the South West were dry at the time of seeding, but crops have gotten by with available moisture. The next time you sit down to a dish of pasta you can think of this Grow Hope field! Chaun and Sara Holfeld who seeded the Siebert’s field described their motivation for doing do as “wanting to be part of something bigger than us.”
The Sonntag brothers who farm near Goodsoil were able to finish off their seeding this year in record time. Seeding conditions were ideal this spring which stands in contrast to several unusually wet years that delayed the seeding operation and shortened the growing season. The brothers expressed their gratitude and reflected on their pull towards generosity as something they received from their father, who also went out of his way to work with other Christians to help those in need.
Thanks to your generosity, 123 of the 215 available acres are sponsored so far. We applaud your generosity. If you have not already helped sponsor the crop input expenses on an acre or two this year, we ask that you consider doing so. We need to keep the crops – and the hope – growing!
As this project is rooted in faith, we continue to ask for your prayers for all those involved in supporting the Grow Hope community. Grow Hope is a project that brings people together so we also invite you to continue sharing with family, friends, and co-workers how they can take part.
